Security information is an alternate contact email address or phone number added to your account. If you forget your password or if someone else tries to control your account, we send you a verification code to that alternate address or phone number. When you return the code to us, we will know that you can help you log back into your Microsoft account.

We use your security information to verify your identity if you gain access to personal information or detect a problem with your account.

You can change your password, update information, or review recent activity. If you are yet to sign-in to your Microsoft account, you will see a message.
